2010 PCYA Executive:

PCYA President Riley Georgsen

I grew up in the rural community of Hanna, AB and learned first hand how much youth can accomplish when organized, motivated, and engaged with a clear vision. I believe that the PCYA has the opportunity to make a great impact on the PC Party and Alberta. I have been actively involved with the PC Party for over five years and during this time I have had the opportunity to work with many constituency boards across the province, as well as with the University of Calgary Campus Conservative Association. I have been involved with many campaigns and have even worked on the Premier's tour in the 2008 election. Presently, I am in my 4th and final year of a Political Science degree at the University of Calgary, and I work part time for Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart. I live in Calgary with my wife, and when I'm not living and breathing provincial politics, I'm cooking up a storm in the kitchen!

PCYA Executive Vice President John Hampson

As a first year student at the University of Calgary, I'm absolutely thrilled with the opportunity to serve as Executive Vice-President of PCYA. Born and raised in Medicine Hat, I've enjoyed being involved in the worthwhile Progressive Conservative cause. While at university, I hope to accomplish a combined degree in Political Science and Social Work, with the ultimate ambition of heading into public administration with the Government of Alberta. My greatest passion lies in making the voices of the youth heard on all issues, and I have worked tirelessly to do so. Last summer, I received an appointment to the Alberta Government Children and Youth Services Advisory Panel for 2008-2009 and was re-appointed in October, 2009. In the political ring, I continue to serve on the PC Board of Directors for the constituencies of Medicine Hat and Banff-Cochrane as VP Youth. A fun tidbit about me:I often enjoy my free time as a fearless follower of that fantastic TV series, Desperate Housewives.

PCYA Vice President Communications Shantel Beach

I'm a born and raised Calgarian, and have been involved in politics for as long as I can remember. In addition to being your current PCYA media-girl (twitter, website, blog etc.), I have been the VP Communications for the University of Calgary Conservative Association, and I am currently the VP Youth for the Foothills/Rockyview Constituency. In December I returned from Washington D.C. where I worked as a Research Associate at The Counci on Hemispheric Affairs, and I'm currently working as a full-time private tutor for high school students. I am proud to be a part of the PCYA because it provides youth with tons of opportunities to make a difference in their communities, and I think the world needs to hear more youth voices. Fun fact about me: I love travelling, and so far have either visited, or lived in: Venezuela, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ireland, Britain, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, U.S., and Costa Rica. In the spring, I'll be heading to Australia, New Zealand, Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina!

PCYA Secretary Samantha Georgsen

I started my involvement with the PC Party early on in my life. Politics were often discussed around my family's kitchen table in Chesterme, AB, where I grew up and once in high school I decided to join my local constituency. At a young age, I was able to make a big difference in my local community and I believe through hard work, we all can make a significant impact. Since then, my involvement with the PC Party has only grown. Some of the highlights have been being a campaign manager in the 2008 election, as well being a summer student in the office of the Premier. I also enjoyed my involvement with the University of Calgary Campus Conservative Club where I have held the positions of Secretary and President. Today I am finishing my degrees in Communications and Political Science at the University of Calgary. Outside of politics, I enjoy living in Calgary with my husband in our new home.

PCYA Vice President Finance Robert Sallows

My name is Robert Sallows and I am your Vice-President Finance. I was born and raised in Calgary. Having been involved in provincial politics for the last four years, I have seen political landscape change; being involved with the Progressive Conservative Calgary-Glenmore board I saw this first hand. I have been with the Calgary-Glenmore PC board for four years, and at this time sit as their VP Youth. Currently, I am enrolled with the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary seeking my Bachelor of Commerce degree with a concentration in Finance. I am looking forward to serving the Progressive Conservative Youth of Alberta as their VP Finance and keeping us in the black!

PCYA Regional Director South Erika Barootes

It gives me great joy to serve as Director South of PCYA. Now Alumni of the University of Calgary, having graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Cooperative Education, I'm very much looking forward to working with the current Executive to further engage Alberta's youth. After working for former Deputy Premier Ron Stevens, I soon found myself in the dealings of merger and acquisitions with the Calgary based Real Estate company, Okko Communities. While doing so, I've been sure to continue building on one of my greatest passions, community service, with local organizations such as the Calgary Drop-in Centre and Ronald Macdonald House Charities. In regards to the PC Party, I currently serve on Calgary-Varsity's Executive Committee and have most recently been appointed as a member of the 2010 Progressive Conservative AGM Organizing committee. Whenever I have some down time, you'll often see my competitive edge surface and find me on the marathon circuit. I'm certain that this year is going to be absolutely fantastic. I hope you join us!

PCYA Regional Director North Matthew Bissett

As young people, we have a great opportunity to be engaged in the political process and affect change around us, rather than just talking about it. We are the next generation of leaders for our communities, for our province, and for this great nation that we call home. We need fresh ideas to revitalize the political landscape. Being a young person is an opportunity, not a restriction, and we can make a difference now in the world that will be ours tomorrow. It is important now more than ever that we as PCs stick to the principles that we stand for and work together to grow and improve Alberta as a province for all of our residents. I look forward to working with other energetic youth throughout this province so that we can build our future today.

PCYA Regional Director Central Kayla-Rae MacMullin

In September 2009, I graduated from an Esthetics program in Red Deer. Shortly after I finished, I opened my own buisness in my hometown of Olds. I don't have a strong background in politics, but I came into this to learn and to help others become more active in politics. When I was presented with the opprutunity to serve on the executive of the PCYA, I was very excited, because I really enjoy working with people and becoming involved.I currently serve on the board of directors for the Olds-Didsbury-Threehills constituency, it is a great way to give the youth of my community a voice and its very great opportunity.I have played hockey as a goalie for twelve years and last year I was a singer and had the great honour of singing with the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus.
